This is from last night at Pomham Rocks Light near Providence. I came at sunset on a hunch that there might be a colorful sky. When I arrived, the sky was totally filled with heavy clouds. But soon after sunset, the western sky lit up in a fiery display that lasted about five minutes. We"ve had a series of colorful skies in recent weeks. This is pretty unusual for December, but hey, I"m not complaining.

Pomham Rocks Light sits on large rock in the Providence River, only three miles from downtown Providence. The lighthouse went into operation in 1871. The tower contains a fixed red light that in this photo, is lost against the crimson sky.
