GDEB Nets Second Submarine Deal in a WeekVIRGINIA CLASS SUBMARINE

Electric Boat, a wholly owned subsidiary of General Dynamics, has received a $29.8 million contract modification from the U.S. Navy for the development of advanced submarine technologies for current and future undersea platforms.

Under the contract awarded on January 17th, the Company will undertake submarine research and development studies in support of a wide range of technology areas including manufacturability, maintainability, survivability, hydrodynamics, acoustics and materials.

The research will also include work in affordability, manning, hull integrity, performance, ship control, logistics, weapons handling and safety. Additionally, the contract supports near-term Virginia-class technology insertion, future submarine concepts and core technologies.

If all options are exercised and funded, the contract has a potential value of $711 million over five years.

This is the second contract General Dynamics Electric Boat (GDEB) won in the same week.

Namely, GDEB signed a USD 15 million deal with Naval Sea Systems Command for repair work on Groton-based submarines under the New England Maintenance Manpower Initiative (NEMMI).
