We were drove on the CA-1 (Cabrillo Hwy) heading north to San Francisco. It is not so easy to miss the Pigeon Point Lighthouse because you can see it when you are approaching it. It is located 44.7 km (27.8mi) north of Santa Cruz and one of the most easy access lighthouses on our visit along the coast highway. The 35 m (115 ft) height lighthouse was built in 1871 and is the tallest lighthouse on the west coast of the United States. It has a small parking lot for about 20 cars, but you can park along the Pigeon Point Rd. Today the restored lighthouse keepers" housing became Pigeon Point Lighthouse Hostel served as a youth hostel for travelers. The view of the lighthouse stands on a rocky cape with the Pacific Ocean as the background is amazing. Walk around and you will find some incredible spots for photography.
