USS TIMBALIER 1948 – USS Timbalier (AVP-54) was a Barnegat-class seaplane tender of the United States Navy. She was commissioned shortly after the end of World War II, and served between 1946 and her decommissioning in 1954.

Darwin departs for Middle East
It was a perfect Sydney day on 30 December as Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull joined Chief of Navy, Vice Admiral Tim Barrett, friends and family at Garden Island, to farewell HMAS Darwin as the ship sailed for the Middle East region.

The 16-year-old vessel rotated before crashing into a dock at Marseille, south of France. The impact tore a 30-metre long hole at the rear of the boat but no one was hurt in the incident.
