>MH370 Highest Priority Search Area Announced
An expert satellite working group has reviewed all existing information in order to define a search zone of up to 60,000 square kilometers along the arc in the southern Indian Ocean.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development Warren Truss said the latest search area refinement had involved the efforts and expertise of specialists from around the world.
Malaysia and Australia are developing a Memorandum of Understanding to determine the areas of cooperation in the search and recovery activities, including financial arrangements.
Malaysia will shortly be announcing the details of the contracted assets that may be deployed as Malaysian Government Furnished Equipment for use in both the bathymetric survey and the search of the sea floor. Survey equipment that has been identified so far includes towed side scan sonar, a multi-beam echo sounder and a sub bottom profiler.
Australia, Malaysia and China reaffirm their commitment to continue to search for MH370 and to keep families informed of developments.

>MH370 Highest Priority Search Area Announced
Today Australia, Malaysia and China announced the search area in the southern Indian Ocean, which represents the highest priority for future search efforts for missing Malaysia Airlines flight MH370.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development Warren Truss said the latest search area refinement had involved the efforts and expertise of specialists from around the world.
“Specialists have analysed satellite communications information—information which was never initially intended to have the capability to track an aircraft—and performed extremely complex calculations,” Mr Truss said.Deputy Prime Minister Truss said the search for MH370 continues with a bathymetric survey—or mapping of the ocean floor—in the search area, to be followed by a comprehensive search of the sea floor.
“The new priority area is still focused on the seventh arc, where the aircraft last communicated with satellite. We are now shifting our attention to an area further south along the arc based on these calculations.
“The Australian Transport Safety Bureau will today release a report outlining the basis on which this search area has been defined.”
“The bathymetric survey has already commenced, with the Chinese survey ship Zhu Kezhen and the Australian-contracted vessel Fugro Equator conducting operations in the areas provided by the Australian Transport Safety Bureau,” Mr Truss said.It is expected that the underwater search will begin in August and take up to 12 months to complete.
“It will take around three months to complete the bathymetric survey.
“The underwater search will aim to locate the aircraft and any evidence to assist with the Malaysian investigation of the disappearance of MH370.”

Russian Deputy Defense Minister Yury Borisov visited the Progress aircraft manufacturing company, based in the city of Arsenyevsk, Primorye Territory, where he discussed potential acquisitions of Kamov Ka-52K ship-based helicopters for Mistral-class helicopter carriers, the Russian Defense Ministry said in a press release, seen by Interfax-AVN on Tuesday.
"The plant is in a stable position and has a long-term contract on the delivery of 146 Ka-52 Alligator helicopters for the period up to 2020. Further plans include [the sale of] 32 ship-based helicopters," Borisov was quoted as saying by the ministry's press service. When commenting on a contract with Russia's Navy, the deputy minister said that the "Navy is expecting Ka-52 helicopters, which will be placed on board the Mistral-type ships currently under construction."
orisov arrived in the Primorye Territory on June 24 to inspect the implementation of earlier signed defense contracts and analyze the production capabilities of local defense industry enterprises. The deputy minister positively assessed the way the Progress aircraft manufacturing company, which is a member of the Russian Helicopters Holding, has been fulfilling this year's defense contracts.
Borisov visited the plant's sections where Ka-52 Alligator helicopters are produced, saying that the enterprise's work on the 2014 defense contracts has been successful and it is prepared to tackle next year's defense orders. During the visit, Borisov and the plant's management discussed a new deal on Ka-52K helicopter deliveries in 2015 and 2016. "We paid great attention to import replacement issues, including as far as components received from Ukraine as concerned. These issues are not critical. They can be resolved quite painlessly," Borisov said.
t the end of his visit, the deputy minister watched a demonstration flight by a Ka-52 Alligator helicopter. Ka-52 is a new-generation helicopter that can be used in any weather and at night as well as in the daytime. It is a two-seat modification of the Ka-50 Black Shark attack helicopter and can destroy armored vehicles and low-speed air targets, carry out reconnaissance missions and coordinate groups of combat helicopters. The Progress plant is currently preparing to launch the production of Ka-52K helicopters for the Russian Navy. Progress is a hi-tech enterprise that specializes in manufacturing advanced helicopters.
