Royal Navy team detonates bomb from war

A Royal Navy ordnance disposal team has safely detonated a Second World War bomb.
The 2ft long German SC-50 device was discovered by contractors in a field near Wadebridge, north Cornwall.
The air-dropped bomb was still live and the Royal Navy team from HM Naval Base Devonport, Plymouth, had to disarm the fuse first.
The device, which weighed 110lb (50kg), was then blown up through a controlled explosion at St Eval Kart Circuit. Contractors for South West Water found the device as they were laying pipes in the field.
Petty Officer Diver Sid Lawrence said: “This was a very well-run operation.’
