USA: BIW Lands USD 212 Million DDG-1000 Deal
BIW Lands USD 212 Million DDG-1000 Deal
The U.S. Navy has awarded General Dynamics Bath Iron Works (GDBIW) a contract modification for DDG-1000 class services worth $212 million, U.S. Senator Susan Collins, a senior member of the Senate Defense Appropriations Subcommittee, and Senator Angus King, a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, announced.
This contract will allow BIW to build the deckhouse, hangar, and aft vertical launch system (VLS) for the third DDG-1000 ship.
“This contract will provide significant and important work for BIW,” said Senators Collins and King. “BIW engineers and workers are designing and building one of the most complex ships in the world, and the three destroyers Bath is currently building will be invaluable assets to U.S. national security and the Navy’s fleet.”
In addition, in mid-June the Senate Armed Services Committee authorized and last week the Senate Appropriations Committee included an additional $100 million and report language for the Arleigh Burke destroyer program to fund a tenth ship in the DDG-51 multiyear procurement – a ship Bath Iron Works would build. In June, Ray Mabus, Secretary of the United States Navy, informed Senators Collins and King that BIW has been awarded a multi-year procurement contract in the amount of $2.8 billion to construct four Arleigh Burke class destroyers (DDG-51’s) during the next five years, with the option to build a fifth ship.
