Russian Navy to be supplied with more than 50 vessels before end of 2014
One of them is a Project 636 diesel-electric submarine due to be launched next week. "On June 26, the diesel-electric submarine Rostov-on-Don will be launched at Admiralty Wharves for the Black Sea Fleet," Chirkov told graduates of naval colleges at a ceremony in St. Petersburg, adding that altogether the fleet would be supplied with six Project 636 submarines. The Navy is also receiving training sets for the submarines' future crews.
On June 27, the minesweeping forces are due to receive a new-generation Project 12700 mine countermeasures ship, developed by the Almaz design bureau.
"Another three such ships will be built for the Navy very soon under a contract," Chirkov said. The Navy would also be provided with four Raptor patrol boats. Altogether, the Navy would be supplied more than 50 combat and logistic vessels before the end of 2014, the admiral said. It would also receive about 10 new-generation Kaspiy damage control training sets, he said.
