Russia Launches Fourth Submarine for Vietnamese Navy

The fourth submarine of the project 636 named HQ-185 Da Nang, ordered from Russia in 2009 by the Vietnam People’s Navy has been launched today at the Admiralty Shipyard in St. Petersburg, Russian News Agency Itar – Tass said.

The boat is scheduled to begin anchor trials tomorrow at the shipbuilder’s wharf.
The Vietnamese Navy took delivery of the third from a batch of six submarines ordered from Russia, the HQ 184 Hai Phong just a few days ago, Russian media informed.
The HQ 184 Hai Phong was handed over having completed testing at sea in Kaliningrad, which included conducting of 20 dive tests in over 60 hours of being submerged.
The work on the fifth vessel has also been initiated, while the last one is scheduled for construction later this year.
The 3,100-ton submarines are described as almost undetectable when submerged. They boast of cutting-edge stealth technology and can engage targets both on land, surface and underwater.
