Chalke Valley History Festival originally shared:
In June we will be treated to a number of Spitfires flying over the chalk downs. This Mk XIX is equipped with a Rolls Royce Griffon, a 2050HP engine of enormous power, representing the pinnacle of Rolls-Royce’s piston power plants. This Spitfire, PS853, was a photo-reconnaissance variation, painted blue and unarmed, but capable of flying at altitudes and speeds unrivalled by any other models of the aircraft. It served with 16 Squadron until the end of the war, then remained on duty in Germany until 1946. Also on show at the Festival will be Rolls-Royce’s Merlin engine.http://bit.ly/1rusFeo
