Astomos Energy Heads Back For More

Mitsubishi Heavy Industries’ Nagasaki Shipyard & Machinery Works will be cutting steel again soon for another very large liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) carrier ordered today by shipowner/operator Astomos Energy. This vessel will be identical to the one they ordered last year and is due for delivery in the first half of 2016.

Unlike last year’s order, Kawasaki Heavy did not gain a similar order as well.

This new ship will measure 230.0 meters in length, 36.6m beam and 11.1m in draft, with gross tonnage of 48,300 tons and deadweight tonnage of 51,100t. It will have capacity to carry up to 83,000 cubic meters of LPG.

In an emailed statement, Mitsubishi notes this new vessel is designed specifically to replace older tonnage and will be targeted to support shipments of LPG from the United States via the new Panama Canal, once constructed.
