Indian Sub Catches Fire, Seven Seriously InjuredMUMBAI, INDIA

Another accident, after numerous suffered during this and last year, has occurred today in the Indian Navy’s fleet, this time involving the Sindhuratna submarine, according to DNA India.

 
The submarine was undergoing sea trials 50 km off the Mumbai coast, after being subjected to a refit two months ago, when the accident occurred.
A fire broke out in one of the battery compartments of the submarine amid which the smoke from the fire triggered the automatic closure of hatches, causing serious injuries to seven navy personel after inhalling the smoke.
Two more navy personnel are still missing.
Sindhuratna is said to be heading back to Mumbai after the smoke was detected onboard.
The accident is under investigation.
