Damen Shipyards announced today that their client, Smit Lamnalco has taken delivery of theSL Kiwi, a 22-meter long, STu 2008-type tugboat.  This 39.4 ton bollard pull-rated tug will join her sister ship SL Kittiwake in the northern Persian (Arabian) Gulf in support of Single Point Mooring operations.
Built at Damen’s facilities in Gorinchem (the Netherlands), the SL Kiwi left Rotterdam at the end of December aboard SAL Heavy Lift’s vessel, MV Trina.  She was loaded alongside 5 other workboats on board the ship.

“The vessel does have a number of client-specific features, such as an open stern with removable bulwark top plate and Smit Lamnalco corporate colours,” noted Jan de Vente, Damen’s tug newbuild project manager. ”In addition, various options from our ‘catalogue of OEM extras’, such as a deck crane and fuel oil separator unit, were selected too.”
Like her 2012-built sister ship, the ‘SL Kiwi’ will to a large extent be deployed in marine services to the oil and gas terminal industry, including diving support. Hence the various extras. The Stu 2208 type vessels were dominantly designed for towage and harbour mooring assistance.
