The French Navy’s Horizon and Cassard class air defense frigates will be upgraded with Sagem’s (Safran) optronic systems, the French defense procurement agency DGA (Direction générale de l’armement) announced.The Sagem’s New-Generation Electro-Optical Multifunction Systems (EOMS-NG) will be installed on four ships. Under the contract, Sagem will also ensure complete maintenance services for three years, training and provision of spare parts. The products are slated for delivery in the second half of 2014 through the end of 2015. The EOMS-NG is a high-performance, third-generation optronic system that provides panoramic infrared surveillance, reconnaissance, identification and tracking. It is envisaged for operation both day or night, at sea or in coastal areas, and against all types of threats.
