Check out this infographic from A.P. Moller – Maersk Group about their record breaking Triple-E containerships (you can click the infographic above or HERE for a higher resolution image). Maersk Line has ordered a total of 20 of the ships from DSME in South Korea. The first vessel in the series, MV Mærsk Mc-Kinney Møller, entered service in July 2013 and since then DSME has been cranking them out at the rate of about one new ship every month and a half. Of course records are made to be broken. Recently, Hyundai Heavy Industries in South Korea cut steel on the first of five 19,000 TEU containerships for China Shipping Container Lines. The first ship, measuring 400 meters in length, 58.6 meters in width and 30.5 meters in depth, is scheduled to be handed over by November this year. But for now, we’ll just let Maersk Line and the Triple-E’s enjoy their time at the top. Below: Triple-E arrives in Rotterdam before a crowd. Image courtesy @MaximusAemilius via Maersk Line. |
