The much loved and lamented SAGA RUBY looks as though she has a new lease of life, albeit a static one. Indications are that her name has been changed to OASIA and she will be a floating hotel.
Older readers will recall that this was the VISTAFJORD built for Norwegian America Line by Swan Hunter Shipbuilders, Newcastle back in 1973
She later went to Cunard in 1983 and became the RMS CARONIA between 1999 and 2004. After this she was renamed SAGA RUBY and arguably, became just as famous under this identity sailing for Saga Cruises.
The last cruise ended in the middle of last month and she was put up for sale.
Now she appears to have been renamed OASIA, owned by a Singapore company called Millennium View Ltd. From various sources it would appear she is to be converted into a floating hotel, probably in Singapore.
