Check out this recently unearthed timelapse video showing the 2008 lengthening of the Balmoral cruise ship (formerly Norwegian Crown) at the Blohm + Voss shipyard in Hamburg, Germany. Originally built to a length of about 616 ft. in 1988, the ship underwent a major retrofit upon arrival at its current owner/operator, Fred.Olsen Cruise Lines, that included the addition of a 30 meter (99 ft.) midsection. And for those of you wondering about the structural integrity of the ship following the lengthening, we’ll just say that in 2009 it survived these 50 foot seas in the Bay of Biscay, so we think it’s safe.
