The Irish Naval Service Vessel L.É. NIAMH detained an Irish registered fishing vessel approximately 50 nautical miles west of the Blasket Islands yesterday evening, Irish Defence Forces informed.
The detention was conducted on the grounds of an alleged breach of fishing regulations. L.É. NIAMH escorted the fishing vessel to Castletownbere, Co Cork and will be handed over to An Gardaí Síochána.
With this detention, the Irish Naval Service boarded a total of 452 vessels in 2013, this being the fifth vessel detained by the Naval Service so far this year.
