KARACHI: In order to promote the importance of oceans, Pakistan Navy celebrated World Ocean Day on Saturday June 08 by arranging a number of awareness raising activities such and beach walk and cleaning at Manora and Sea View, carnival at Maritime Museum and various activities like lectures, quizzes, essay writing and chart making competitions at educational institutions including special children schools.
Pakistan Navy reaffirmed its commitment for sustainable ocean usage while endeavouring to protect the oceans from various threats and challenges.
“We are fully committed to play an important role in the global efforts to protect and preserve the oceans for better tomorrow,” says an ISPR release.
World Ocean Day is observed around the world on June 08 every year to highlight the significance of oceans and to promote awareness especially for sustainable use of oceans and marine resources.
The theme selected for this year is “Together we have the power to protect the ocean.” Pakistan is blessed with a significant coastline and a large area of exclusive economic zone with abundance of natural living and non-living resources.
Sadly many of the living resources in Pakistan’s Exclusive Economic Zone are endangered due to over exploitation and use of destructive techniques that needs to be curbed for better management and sustainable use of ocean resources, it said.
