HMS Illustrious Welcomes Vice Admiral on Board, Singapore

The Fleet Commander, Vice Admiral Philip Jones CB, has visited HMS Illustrious in Singapore.

The Fleet Commander met HMS Illustrious on arrival in Singapore to offer his thanks for the Portsmouth based amphibious helicopter carrier’s contribution to the humanitarian aid effort in the Philippines.
HMS Illustrious had called into Singapore to replenish food, fuel and essential stores and to allow the ship’s company time to rest before continuing their journey home. Elements of the forces embarked in HMS Illustrious will also return home to pick up their operational programme after Christmas.
HMS Illustrious has completed her contribution to Operation Patwin – the UK military contribution to the initial response to the devastation caused by Typhoon Haiyan over a month ago.
The Fleet Commander congratulated all in HMS Illustrious for a job well done.
He said:

“I am immensely proud of what you have all achieved together. This really has been a joint effort representing everything that the Response Force Task Group was stood up to do.
“The embarked teams from the Navy, Army and RAF have integrated seamlessly and worked in close harmony with the Department for International Development and other civilian counterparts to deliver a stunning effect on the ground.
“I know that many of you will miss Christmas with your families. I also know that not a single complaint has been heard from you.
“You have upheld the best traditions of the Royal Navy and the Services to which you belong. Rest assured that our thoughts are with you over the festive season and we look forward to welcoming you home early in the New Year.”
