Fire aboard Indian Navy Ship

Indian Navy warship INS Konkan caught fire during repair in Vizag on Wednesday, as informed by the Indian Express.

INS Konkan, a Pondicherry class minesweeper acquired from Russia, was undergoing a refit at naval base Vizag when the accident occurred.

As sources reported, the fire broke out in the engine room of the ship and
several people had to be evacuated.

This is yet another fire accident in the Indian Navy during this year.

As we reported earlier, Indian submarine INS Sindurakshak sank in August after an explosion and subsequent fire, killing18 mariners onboard.

The Pondicherry class is a class of minesweepers built for the Indian Navy by the Soviet Union.

It is a modified version of the Natya class minesweeper.

As minesweepers, they are large and heavily armed. They can serve a dual purpose as an anti-submarine warfare escort. Their hulls are constructed of U3 low magnetic signature steel.
