Robert Allan’s Newest Design: RAmparts 3500

On November 19, 2013, the first tug of a new series of RAmparts 3500 Class design was delivered to its owners Tianjin Port, a port in north part of China. The vessel is constructed at Shanghai Harbor Fuxing Shipping Service Company, named Jin Gang Lun 26. A sister vessel is under construction at the same yard.

The hull of this new design is developed from very successful RAmpartsdesign series with considerable customized features for particular operation requirements of ports in China.

TheJin Gang Lun 26isclassed and built according to Chinese Classification Society with notations: CCS, Tug, Coastal Service

The tug is also designed and built to CCS ice class B, Fire Fighting 1 vessel although it is not classed to these notations.

The vessel has been outfitted for full accommodation up to crew of 14. Master’s cabins are located on the main deck, with chief engineer and three additional four crew private crew cabins, located on the lower accommodation deck. A spacy mess/conference room is placed in the deckhouse.
The deck machinery comprises two ship assist hawser winches on the bow, and a tow hook on the aft deck. In addition, a capstan is installed on the aft deck to facilitate line handling operations.

The wheelhouse is designed for maximum all-round visibility with U-shape control station providing maximum visibility to both fore and aft deck working areas.

Main propulsion for each tug comprises a pair of Daihatsu 8DKM-28eF diesel engines, each rated 2390 kW at 750 rpm, and each driving a Kawasaki, KST-240ZC/B-2.8controllable pitch Z-drive unit, in ASD configuration.

The electrical plant comprises three identical diesel gen-sets, each with a power output of 100 ekW.

Ship-handling fenders at the bow consist of one row of 700 x 350 cylindrical fender at the main deck lever, with 600x400mm M block fenders between the main deck and the knuckle. Two steel half pipefenderwith two short pieces of 400x400 “D” fenders provides protection at the main and foc’sle deck sheer lines, and 500x250 cylindrical fender is used at the stern. Tires are provided all around the vessel.

The tug is fitted with safety system for ship-handling service in LNG terminals.

During sea trials, the tug amazed owner representatives, trial masters by demonstrating her excellent performance of directional stability, maneuverability, etc.

On trials, the Jin Gang Lun 26met or exceeded all performance requirements of design-construction contract, with the following results:
Bollard Pull, ahead: 80 metric tons
Free running speed, ahead: 14.3 knots
